Nutrition Tip:
Depending on the food, we may tell our clients to measure it out uncooked before cooking it. The reason why is because the way you prepare the food can have a drastic change on the final (cooked) weight.

For example, I cooked 150g of potatoes in 3 different ways. In the top bowl to the left, I cut up the potatoes into smaller pieces and boiled them. They ended up being about 100g after they were cooked. In the bowl to the right (at the top), I simply boiled them. They ended up being 155g when done. Finally, in the bottom bowl, I chopped and baked them. They ended up being 90g.

So even tho these three servings of potatoes provide the same nutritional value, the cooked weight for each of them is different. Therefore, measuring the potatoes pre-cooked, allows clients to prepare them the way they like and still achieve the calorie and macronutrient intake we’ve set out for them. Basically, it’s just easier and more accurate to measure them uncooked.
