Where You Invest You Create Value

I’ve always thought that where you invested your time, energy, and money represented that which is truly important to you.

But this quote from the movie Fireproof really hit me when I read it today:

“Whatever you put your time, energy, and money into will become more important to you. It’s hard to care for something you’re not investing in.”

The statements are similar except that in the first example it looks at what we are currently doing and makes assumptions about what is important based on where we are investing our resources.

But the second example suggests that if you change where you’re investing those resources, the things you actively choose to invest in become increasingly important to you instead.

For example, if you spend your time watching TV, killing hours on Facebook, playing on your phone instead of playing with your kids, and spending money on fast food it shows pretty clearly where your priorities are.

But if, instead, you invested that time in your spouse, your children, the gym, and the money on nutritious food you would not just be saying that you valued those things, but they would truly increase in value to you because you are investing into them.

Where are you investing your time, money, and resources?

Does your investment reflect the things you want to value?

If not, maybe you need to invest differently.
