What Good Coaching Is …

Good coaches tell you want you need to hear, which admittedly isn’t always what you want to hear. Good coaches put high expectations on you, because they want a lot for you. They believe that together the two of you can achieve great things and they are fully behind this belief. Good coaches are tough, but beyond that tough exterior is care for you, for your well being, and for your goals. Good coaches tell it it like it is. Sometimes that blunt, direct, no BS toughness can feel like a slap in the face in the immediate, but eventually it’s going to feel like a big hug, a pat on the back, and an encouraging push in the right direction when you realize what you’ve just achieved.

Good coaches know if you’ve got more in you, they know if you can do better. Good coaches challenge you to perform with excellence. Good coaches are honest with you, sometimes brutally; but it always stems from a motive of care and wanting the best for you, wanting to see you excel, succeed, do better than even you thought you could. Good coaches want you to see your best and they don’t ever want to put you at risk for anything negative. Good coaches don’t stroke your hair, rub your back and say everything is okay, when it’s not. They say, put your boots on, get committed and get serious. Let’s stop playing around here and achieve something big!

This might not be what everyone looks for in a coach, but it is what you get here.

Don’t set your goals high, if you are not equally prepared to set your standards even higher.
