Tension On The Target Muscle
If you’re squatting (or performing any lift really), you should find a weight that allows you to perform the movement at a reasonable tempo through a full range of motion.
If you cannot do either, the weight is too heavy.
The goal with physique development is not to lift as much weight as possible from point A to point B, but to put as much tension as possible on the target muscle.
Reduce the weight, control the movement, take it through the full range of motion and you’ll put more stress on the target muscle bringing about greater development.
Crashing weights around that you can’t lift in the first place isn’t impressing anybody.
Train your muscles, not your ego.
