Taking “Weekends Off”

February 1st, 2014 by

On our new client questionnaires one of the things we ask for is a representative example of a their current diet.

In response I sometimes see what looks like a reasonable intake during the week followed by the statement “weekends off”.

So let’s be clear about this, there is no point in busting your butt to be compliant all week long only to blow it on the weekend if you claim to be actively in pursuit of a goal.

The extra calories consumed on your weekend off can erase the deficit that you worked so hard all week to create.

In short, two days can erase five.

Of course, you can choose to be off plan all weekend if you want. But you can’t simultaneously be stating that you are committed to your fat loss plan because, if you’re taking every weekend off, you aren’t.

Despite the fact that you may have convinced yourself that weekend food has fewer calories than weekday food, it doesn’t.

If you’re actively trying to lose fat, you need to nail your diet.
