Saboteurs and Negativity
This was a great quote from Mark in the post he made about the client who lost 130 lbs. It can sometimes (probably often even) explain the negativity people experience from their peers, even family when they experience success with weight loss. I would imagine this often even comes from those who have weight to lose themselves, have struggled with their own fat-loss success, are yo-yo dieters, etc. Do other in-shape, fit lifestyle living people generally do this? I would doubt it. They’d encourage not discourage.
Your success, commitment, etc., serves almost as a form of accountability or conscience for them. It’s like when you’re out eating and you hear sarcastic comments about ordering something “healthy” from the menu while they order some heavy calorie meal. Your choices seemingly act as something affecting their conscience, but that’s really not your problem, it’s theirs. What you eat affects you, not those around you.
“Just remember that while some are well intentioned, every success you have is a mirror for others to see where they’ve failed. Don’t let them discourage you. Often, if you stick with it long enough, you’ll be the person they come to for help when they finally decide to change.”
