How Do You Describe Yourself?

How do you describe yourself? What words do you use when you think or talk about your expectations?

Tentative, doubt-filled words and phrases such as “perhaps” or “if I’m lucky” or “maybe” will undermine even the most positive and ambitious expectations. So stay away from them.

Instead, get in the habit of using words such as “certainly” and “absolutely” and “definitely.” Say “I will” instead of “I might.” Though the difference may seem subtle, when repeated over and over again, the words you use to describe yourself can influence the way you think and act.

Words give power to your thoughts and those thoughts direct your actions. Spectacular results begin with powerful, positive words. The words you listen to the most are your own, and you generally accept them without question. So make them powerful. Make them positive. Talk to yourself and about yourself with confidence. The positive power in your vocabulary will easily and naturally become a part of your life. -Ralph Marston
