Eating off plan for holidays and special occasions

Sometimes people take our advice to enjoy a relaxing off-plan holiday dinner with their family only to report later that they’re frustrated that they’ve gained a couple pounds the day after.

So here are a couple things you should know.

1) If you’re up a few pounds the morning after an off-plan meal, it isn’t all fat. RELAX. It will come off.

2) You are absolutely free to eat off plan for a holiday dinner, but you are not free from the consequences of that decision.

In other words, we DO encourage people to enjoy an off-plan meal with their family, but that doesn’t mean that you are somehow exempt from the results of that choice.

The point is simply that there are times when taking an off-plan meal wouldn’t be advisable because you want to continue making forward progress.

But then there are other special times when it is perfectly appropriate to accept that there will be a lack of progress and that is completely okay.

You just have to learn to decide which times are important enough to warrant the deviation and which aren’t. When you do make the decision to eat off plan, enjoy the meal, accept the results, and get right back on plan.

A single meal taken infrequently is not going to stop you from making progress over the long term. But if you do decide to have one, you still have to live with the results of your decision.
