Don’t Let Anyone Tell You That You Can’t

In highschool I was never great at English. I mean, I could spell and make grammatically correct sentences, but I certainly wasn’t a gifted communicator…at least not with writing.

Then, when I got to my first year of university, one of my teachers pulled me aside after marking my assignment and told me pretty bluntly that I might as well stick with science and math because I was definitely never going to get anyone to read anything I might ever choose to write.

She told me that my writing was stilted (I remember that because I had to look it up) and that it would probably be in my best interest to avoid classes where written format assignments were the norm.

Fast forward to 2014 and I’ve now written for Livestrong, T-Nation, Muscle & Fitness Hers, and several others publications. And now I contribute written content daily to a page that has almost 50,000 followers (thank you, by the way). In fact, my entire career revolves around my ability to communicate with the written word.

So… If you’re wondering where I’m going with this, I just want to remind you to take criticism seriously and use it to improve, but don’t EVER let someone tell you that you can’t do something you know you can do.

If you’ve been discouraged because someone told you that you can’t succeed at something, stop dragging your feet and go get it done.
