Measuring More Than Just Numbers
On our client biweeklies one of the things we have them do is write out their comments on how they feel they are looking, how their training is going, and how their nutrition is going BEFORE they take their weight and measurements.
As much as the scale, measurements, and photos help us to determine the course of their plan, it is sometimes interesting to see the disconnect between how people are FEELING and what the more objective measurements are saying.
More times than not I’ve seen clients report that they are frustrated with their lack of progress only to end up measuring and seeing the progress is substantial.
On the other hand, sometimes it is the complete opposite. There are cases where a client reports feeling awesome yet the results don’t appear to reflect the changes the client feels.
I think what this illustrates is that sometimes we’re terrible judges of our progress and we’re often overly critical of our own bodies.
And I think it also shows that we can be really happy in spite of no measurable change in our bodies when we are consistently executing the actions that we know are going to bring us closer to our goals.
We can be happy not because of the results, but because of the process.
If you’re not already including this as part of your own personal assessment, I’d suggest you give it a try. You’ll probably discover a lot about your own perceptions of your body that you weren’t even aware of.
