The Space Between Stimulus and Response

Client: “Because of a personal matter that happened on the weekend I deviated from the plan and ate everything in sight.”

Me: “No. Because of YOUR CHOICE OF RESPONSE to a personal matter you deviated from the plan. The matter itself did not cause you to deviate. You CHOSE to deviate in response to that matter.”

The reality is that it is not our circumstances do NOT dictate our outcomes. The way we choose to respond to those circumstances is what dictates our outcomes.

If we can, for a second, suspend our emotions and objectively realize the the solution to our problems does not lie in food then we can be successful with our body composition goals.

Or…as a brighter man once said:

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” – Victor Frankl

Your circumstances may affect you, but they don’t have to control you.
