Rapid Versus Sustainable Fat-Loss Coaching

January 10th, 2014 by

Any schmo can put you on a diet in an attempt to lose fat rapidly within a limited time frame. Keep cutting food and adding exercise volume and eventually something will happen. It isn’t really rocket science.

A good coach, however, not only cares about helping you get the fat off, but that the plan is both SUSTAINABLE and not harmful to your long-term metabolic health.

That sometimes means that a coach has to tell you that your deadline is unrealistic or, even worse, that they don’t actually know when you’ll achieve your desired level of leanness because the body’s rate of response is different for each person and therefore not predictable.

Despite being very true, this is not the advice that most people want to hear…especially when they have an event/deadline in mind.

So, in many cases, this results in a person going looking for another option (i.e., someone who will give them the quick fix) only to later experience rapid weight regain after the specified event/deadline.

And worse yet, because of the drastic dieting measures taken, some will suffer long-term consequences in their ability to lose and keep off body fat.

Unfortunately, this is often a lesson that people heed AFTER they’ve experienced the disappointment, frustration, and rebound following a overly restrictive short-term diet. And getting that fat off can now be increasingly more difficult than it otherwise might have been.

I am posting this in the hopes that this will not be you this year. If you’re contemplating a quick fix, don’t do it. While immediately gratifying, there will be consequences down the line and you will later regret the decision of trying to do it quickly.

There are no shortcuts. And if you appear to have found one, it is more than likely just going to take you quickly to a place that you weren’t planning on going.

When it comes to fat loss, slow, steady, and sustainable will always win the race.
