Supplements: progress enhancers, not progress starters

We have a smart and savvy crew here, and most already understand this, but I don’t think this message can be reinforced enough. Supplements are progress ENHANCERS, NOT progress STARTERS. If you are not nutritionally compliant, are training inconsistently and haphazardly, not getting adequate sleep and recovering properly etc., no amount of supplementation is going to make a difference.

sup·ple·ment
noun
ˈsəpləmənt/

1.
something that completes or enhances something else when added to it.

“COMPLETES OR ENHANCES”! The definition doesn’t state “in place of”. If your nutrition and training-the big rocks-are on point, yes, there are some legitimate and effective supplements (a good fish oil is an example) which can enhance your progress…but they never take the place of the basics: eating in a slight deficit (or surplus if in a build), hard and progressive training, proper mindset, consistency and adequate sleep.
