My husband and I just returned from a weekend at Disney World where we celebrated our anniversary, hence the fun face paint. (just had to share) :)

Moving on, the point of my post is to show how easy it can be to stay on plan while traveling for work, vacation, etc., if you choose to do so. Too often I will hear excuses like “there were no healthy food choices” or “I couldn’t take my food with me on vacation so I just ate whatever”. Of course you always have the option to just “wing it”, unprepared, however if you do so then you must also be accepting of the consequences (slower progress).

It’s perfectly ok to enjoy dietary balance while on vacation, provided you aren’t in the homestretch of a competition, photoshoot, etc. However let’s assume you want to stay on or close to plan while traveling, here a some of your options:

– Select a hotel with a kitchen. I planned ahead for our weekend in Orland and located an inexpensive condo with a fully stocked kitchen so that we could grab some grocery items to prepare, on plan, for our stay. My plan was actually NOT to be on plan the entire trip because the way I see it, anniversaries, birthdays, holidays, etc. are meant to be celebrated and enjoyed. So while I enjoyed some yummy treats in the Disney parks with my husband, I also made a point to have my on-plan breakfast and a few other meals at the condo so that I wouldn’t be completely off plan.

– If you do choose to “wing it”, look for healthier options so that you aren’t overindulging too much and causing yourself to completely backtracking in progress. The picture on the right shows one of the MANY carts in the Disney parks that offered healthy selections such as fruit, rice chips, Kind bars, etc. There will almost always be some kind of healthier options available wherever you are traveling.

– You can also substitute in non-perishable food items that can be packed in your purse or a bag, if you plan to take your on-plan meals with you wherever you go.

In addition to these suggestions, we have an entire list of plan-friendly travel options on our blog.
