Find a doctor or health care provider that listens to you

Find a Dr/health care provider that listens to you. Don’t let a dr tell you that your crazy or that it’s all in your head.

Warning Rant ahead-

Sometimes as coach, it’s my job to suggest to clients that they should have labs run when I suspect there might be some issues they need to look into. In one such client I did that. The client had symptoms of unwellness and labs were reflective of low thyroid hormones. Dr. hesitantly I might add, put the client on a dose of thyroid medications.

And Bingo! The client began to feel like she was alive again, all her symptoms of brain fog, depression, grouchy, very tired GONE and her over all feeling of well being improved significantly. Her body started to respond.

Client goes back to for a retest of labs (you need to monitor thyroid hormones). Dr runs TSH ONLY and determines that her levels were ‘good’ and pulled her OFF her medication!

Wait, WHAT?? First of ALL, TSH is not a thyroid function hormone test and should not be used to titrate medication (outside of say cancer). Optimized labs are supposed to look good! That is what medication does when you are optimized! The goal of medication is not to be ‘normal’ its to be optimal with relief of all symptoms. You don’t take a patient off meds because labs look normal!

Client was taken off medication for 3 or so weeks and guess what? Client reports all her symptoms of brain fog, depression, grouchy, very tired are back and her over all feeling of well being is gone and she’s starting to gain weight.

Speak up! She called the dr and fought to get her meds back. Unfortunately some doctors (thankfully not all) think that only they know what they are talking about and ‘we’ as patients and ‘advocates’ haven’t clue about health and our OWN bodies because we didn’t attend medical school. I’ve personally had that thrown into my face a time two(they were fired!! ;) as well. Speak up!

That didn’t stop me; don’t let it stop you! If I listen to those who said to leave it up to them; I’d be so sick, I don’t think I’d be here right now. I found a dr that cared about having me be a part of their team. You have to learned a lot about your own thyroid condition. What I’ve learned I use that to help clients learn/ advocate for themselves too.

For now this client has her script to hold her over and unfortunately or I should say fortunately she has to start over but I’m confident we’ll will find the right doctor for her and the new doctor will be happy to have her as part of the team.

Do you need some help with resources? Try a compounding pharmacy, Try thyroid medication/ doctors lists (like Nature-Thyroid, WP Thyroid, Amour), Try Functional and Integrative Medicine lists. There is help out there.

On our blog have many entries on thyroid and lab testing information too.www.leanbodiesconsulting.com
